OCD Treatment in Austin, TX
Do Intrusive Thoughts or Repetitive Behaviors Feel Like They’re Running Your Life?
Maybe you find yourself checking the same thing over and over, unable to shake the feeling that something bad will happen if you don’t. Maybe disturbing or unwanted thoughts show up uninvited, and no amount of reasoning makes them go away. Maybe rituals around cleanliness, order, or “just right” feelings take up more time and energy than you want them to.
If this sounds familiar, you’re not alone, and it’s not a character flaw. OCD is a treatable condition, and real relief is possible.
Understanding OCD
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder involves two connected parts: obsessions (intrusive, unwanted thoughts, images, or urges that cause distress) and compulsions (behaviors or mental rituals performed to reduce that distress or prevent a feared outcome). Over time, compulsions can start to feel necessary just to get through the day, even though they often make the underlying anxiety worse, not better.
OCD can show up in many forms, including:
Checking (locks, appliances, messages)
Contamination fears and washing or cleaning rituals
Intrusive thoughts about harm, religion, or relationships
Symmetry, order, or “just right” compulsions
Mental rituals like counting, praying, or reviewing
Our Approach to OCD Treatment
We use Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), the gold-standard, evidence-based treatment for OCD. ERP works by gradually and safely helping you face the thoughts, situations, or triggers that cause distress, without engaging in the compulsion that usually follows. Over time, this retrains your brain to tolerate uncertainty and anxiety without needing the ritual for relief.
We also draw on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to help you build a different relationship with intrusive thoughts, learning to let them be present without giving them control over your actions. Treatment is always paced to what feels manageable for you.
You’re never pushed faster than you’re ready for, and your therapist works collaboratively with you throughout.
You Don’t Have to Keep Managing This Alone
OCD can be exhausting to carry, especially when it’s misunderstood or minimized by people around you. Working with a therapist who specializes in OCD means working with someone who understands the difference between OCD and everyday worry, and who has real tools to help.
